Sharyn has been avidly involved with MHM for a little over a year, and we feel so lucky
to have her help and support to further our mission.
Tell us a little bit about how you’ve been involved in Moms Helping Moms?
I was first introduced to Moms Helping Moms about a year ago through a professional connection, and I was thrilled to learn about and support a local organization doing so much good for our communities. I started by organizing a diaper drive at my corporate office. We collected 1,900 diapers and raised $1000, including a matching gift from our corporate giving office. I was eager to do more than just raise money and collect diapers, so over the summer I started volunteering an hour or two a week at the Moms Helping Moms warehouse. I even brought my kids to help one time (ages 8 and 11), and I’m hoping to continue to get them involved so they can see the needs that exist right here in our community, and how their efforts can make a difference.
What makes a volunteer experience rewarding for you?
I have been very fortunate to be able to provide basic necessities (and more) for my
family, but I realize that I am very lucky. I feel that it’s my responsibility to give back to
the community, and to show my kids how important it is to help others. It’s extremely
rewarding for me to volunteer for an organization that helps people, especially children,
in our local New Jersey communities. I truly enjoy the people I meet at Moms Helping
Moms, the stories of hope, sharing and kindness, and the opportunity to collaborate on
ways to continue to improve the lives of those around us.
What causes are you most passionate about?
The causes that I generally support most are those that provide children and families with the basic necessities for a fruitful life—food, clothing, books, supplies, and the opportunity to learn and grow surrounded by kindness and love.
What’s your favorite Fall activity?
Enjoying the outdoors with friends and family—a hike, an evening sitting by a fire,
perhaps a pumpkin beer too?
What talent would you most like to have?
I wish I had even the slightest ability to draw—I’m not even good at making stick
